NATIONAL ASSEMBLY RECEIVES WORLD`S LARGEST POSTCARD

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia today received the world’s largest postcard, a symbol of peace and tolerance, and the gift of Peter Gelencer, ceramic artist from Sombor.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia today received the world’s largest postcard, a symbol of peace and tolerance, and the gift of Peter Gelencer, ceramic artist from Sombor. The Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic, received the postcard on behalf of the Assembly, and added that the Assembly’s art collection was enriched by this unusual artwork, as well as that the Assembly would officially apply to have it registered with the Guinness Book of Records.

The author of the postcard underlined that it was made of bits and pieces of the material he works with every day, which he used to create a picture of his hometown. The work is also intended to be a symbol of peace and tolerance between people. The author decided to offer the work he spent five years creating to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the house of all the people, as an expression of support to the institution that contributes the most to reconciliation and tolerance in the region.

The postcard weighs over 160 kilos and measures 2,4 by 1,4 metres; it is made of ceramic and over 20 other materials with symbolic meanings. It carries a message of peace to peoples of the former Yugoslavia and the entire world, inviting them to come together and build a better life through mutual tolerance and co-operation.

The postcard is on display in the hallway on the first floor of the National Assembly building.
